Q & A with WLA

Q: What is your early inspiration of doing science?
A: I just enjoyed the feeling of figuring out a problem that I could not before. The more know-how I accumulate over the year, the more I fall in love with doing science.

Q: Do you have any scientific hero(es)? If so, how did he/she inspire you?
A: Albert Einstein for sure. He published a handful of groundbreaking papers in his twenties.

Q: What is the best advice that you have received?
A: A good career is long career.

Q: What is your greatest achievement so far?
A: Wearable electronics allow continuous and noninvasive monitoring of health and fitness. Existing wearable electronics can only monitor signals on the skin surface. My group pioneered wearable ultrasonic technology that extends the sensing range to over 14 cm below the skin surface, opening up a new sensing dimension for wearable electronics.

Q: What is your research goal?
A: Empowering everyone to manage his/her own health and fitness. Blurring the distinction between home and hospital.

Q: What is the best part of your job?
A: Chasing after my passion. Doing things that I love.

Q: Would you like to share with us some of your unforgettable experience?
A: I got very excited about one idea and woke up naturally, without any alarms, at 3 am. I could not fell asleep then and decided to drive to the lab to do experiments. Eventually, the idea worked out!
