WLA Prize Unveils at WLF4 to Recognize Basic Sciences Breakthroughs

The WLA Prize has been officially established at the 4th World Laureates Forum (WLF4) host by World Laureates Association (WLA), which will be awarded annually in two categories  - Mathematics and Intelligent Science, Medicine and Life Sciences, with RMB 10 million ($1.6 million) each in prize money, being one of the largest awards in sciences. The WLA  Prize, founded by WLA, administered by the WLA Development Foundation, and funded by Sequoia China, will officially start its first nomination and awarding in 2022. The Prize, modeled after global prizes, will invite top laureates as advisers, and recognize scientists from around the world without limitations to nationality or age.

In the past decade, Sequoia China, with scientific convictions, has helped many high-tech enterprises grow from small start-ups to big companies, and will keep committed to find and empower more businesses in frontier areas such as artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, life sciences," Niel SHEN, Steward of Sequoia Capital, Founding and Managing Partner of Sequoia China, said at the launch session, "We have great expectations toward the WLA Prize. It is not only a prize recognizing past achievements but also an embodiment of future directions of research, we hope that it will sow the  seed and point out the future of scientific advances."
